Ancud and Puñihuil Penguin Colonies (shared)
Description
Embark on an unforgettable adventure on Chiloé Island with our tour to Ancud, Caulín and the Puñihuil Penguin Colonies. Discover the natural and marine richness, admire the beauty of penguins in their habitat and enjoy the serenity of Caulín.
We will begin our tour on the way to the town of Pargua, from where we will board a ferry to sail across the Chacao Channel, which separates the mainland from the Isla Grande de Chiloé. During the crossing (45 minutes) we will be able to see sea lions, pelicans and marine birdlife typical of this region. We will dock in the town of Chacao, where we can see typical Alerce wood buildings and also visit the San Antonio de Chacao church.
After this we will continue toward the area of Caulín, where there is an intertidal wetland that feeds different types of birds throughout the year such as Black-necked Swans, Herons and Flamingos (the latter in winter).
We will arrive at the beach of Puñihuil, where we will board a launch that will take us to the islets where the Magellanic and Humboldt Penguins are found (40 minutes of sailing). It is worth noting that it was declared a National Monument for its ecological importance. We will arrive at the city of Ancud, where we will visit the Local Museum, the Municipal Market and Fort San Antonio; a historic site located in the upper part of the city, built in the late 18th century and part of one of the last Spanish fortifications in our country.
