Itinerary
01 · Puerto Varas and Lake Llanquihue (Departure · Pan-American Highway)
We will begin our journey along the Pan-American Highway which shows us one of the areas of Chile best used for agriculture and livestock, all framed by Lake Llanquihue and the Volcanoes.
02 · Frutillar (German Colony)
We will arrive at the beautiful city of Frutillar, where we can appreciate the German influence in its period houses and its particular care for gardens in harmony with the landscape. We will stop to capture images of Lake Llanquihue and the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes. We will see the “Teatro del Lago”, where its typical music weeks are held, and we will also receive information about the German influence in this area in front of its Colonial Museum.
03 · Puerto Octay (Northeastern shore)
We will continue our route along the northeastern shore of the Lake to connect with the city of Puerto Octay, visiting its waterfront and enjoying its architecture, giving us the chance to leave behind, like a postcard, this beautiful shore.
04 · On the way to the border (Lake Rupanco · Entre Lagos)
After visiting on our way Lake Rupanco we will connect with International Route 215 in the town of Entre Lagos, which is bathed by Lake Puyehue and will give us access to the Cardenal Antonio Samoré border pass.
05 · Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass (1,321 m a.s.l.)
On this stretch there are jungle-like landscapes of Valdivian Humid Forests with a lush understory, where the International Route takes us across Puyehue National Park. Once at Customs we will complete the immigration procedures, always advised by our guides, and continue for the next kilometers, making a farewell stop at the Chilean – Argentine Geographic Boundary at the highest part of the route, reaching 1,321 meters, a place where in winter the snow gives us the most unforgettable experience and in summer overwhelms us with its changes in Andean vegetation.
06 · Nahuel Huapi National Park (Argentina · 1922)
At this point we are also welcomed by Nahuel Huapi National Park, the oldest in all of Argentina, dating from 1922. Once in Argentina, we will make the official entry into Transandean Patagonia, traveling through lakes and mountains to the city of Villa La Angostura.
07 · Villa La Angostura (Lunch stop)
A place where we will have our lunch time enjoying the specialties of Argentine cuisine, especially meats, trout and pasta.
08 · Lake Nahuel Huapi (Patagonian Steppe)
At the end of this unforgettable experience, we will travel the last kilometers skirting Lake Nahuel Huapi, an indescribable natural setting of the Patagonian Steppe, where the vegetation changes to shrubs and grasslands over the hills, plateaus and plains of this part of southern Argentina, allowing us to enjoy the change in vegetation since our departure, all accompanied by the story of the commercial exchange between both countries through the Cardenal Samoré Pass, a name given for the Cardinal’s successful mediation that avoided an armed conflict between both countries in 1978.
09 · San Carlos de Bariloche (Final destination)
We will arrive at our destination, the beautiful city of San Carlos de Bariloche located among landscapes of steppes, native forests and mountains, on a journey full of history, nature and contemplation… where the senses will not remain indifferent.
